Swordtember 7: Fulminae

Ride the lightning with this electric scimitar.

First week of swordtember completed! Today’s prompt was “Storm.“ I had an idea for a blade that let you teleport with an attack back on day 2, with “light“ but I ultimately wanted to save it for today. I think this one ended up really conceptually cool, and the weapon’s appearance — especially the pattern — is something I’m generally pretty happy with. It doesn’t scream “storm“ but I think it still implies it.

Fulminae

Weapon (Scimitar), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)

This beautifully crafted scimitar softly vibrates with a thrum of energy. You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with the weapon. Fulminae has 3 charges, and each charge can be used to cast either Call Lightning or Lightning Bolt as a 3rd-level spell. When you cast one of the spells with this weapon, or when you use your action to trigger a spell effect with the weapon, you can make an attack with fulminae as a bonus action. Additionally, the spells are modified as follows:

Call Lightning. When you cast this spell, and when you use your action to call lightning before the spell ends, you must target an unoccupied space. You are briefly transmuted into a form of pure energy, teleporting to the location where the lightning struck. 

 

Lightning Bolt. instead of the lightning bolt being a 100 foot line, you can make it any distance shorter than that, so long as the bolt ends in a space unoccupied by a creature or object. When you cast this spell, you are briefly transmuted into a form of pure energy and teleport to the end point of the bolt.  

Fulminae regains 1d2 charges at dawn.
